Taryn Larock
Founder & COO
With over 15 years of experience, Taryn Sage Larock has gained a vast knowledge of sustainability, eco-fashion, business development, and conservation. As for the latter, Taryn has a deep love for our oceans and the marine life that depend on them. She also works to preserve wildlife back on land.
As co-founder of SeaSweepers, Taryn is focused on building a business that achieves financial success and contributes in a meaningful way to environmental sustainability and community well-being by developing a state-of-the-art recycling plant with an initial capacity to process 20,000 tons of HDPE plastics annually.
She is also the founder and designer of the award-winning sustainable fashion brand Sage Larock, which utilizes upcycled fishing and gill nets and sustainable, ethical manufacturing practices. Taryn has partnered collaboratively with several non-profits such as Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to design and manufacture her branded swimwear from plastics recovered from ocean clean-up missions.
She has also collaborated with Canopy Planet to promote sustainable forest-friendly solutions for the garment industry. While sitting as a board member and Chief Operations Officer of the non-profit I Stand With My Pack, Taryn worked to co-create and implement solutions for ocean conservation and anti-wildlife trafficking efforts with conservation groups including VetPaw, Fin Free, Paul Hilton, Wildlife Asia, Animal Hope & Wellness, and the Humane Society in Puerto Rico.
Taryn received her B.A. in Philosophy, focusing on phenomenology, logic, and non-human animal consciousness from the University of Colorado. She also studied Entrepreneurship at UCLA. Taryn has been a lifelong lover of the ocean and all things aquatic and is happiest when free diving with sharks and cetaceans. When not underwater, she can often be found speaking at ocean conservation and sustainability conferences.
Through this initiative with SeaSweepers, Taryn and her team plan to pull plastics from the oceans, set up recycling centers for marine plastics, and transform them into high-quality products such as plastic replacements for lumber and furniture. This venture will contribute to the local economy, create employment opportunities, drive sustainable practices, and establish itself as a key player in the circular economy by repurposing marine plastic waste into assets that benefit both the environment and the community.
Alongside co-founder Naveen Sydney, Taryn aims to establish SeaSweepers as an innovative force in the fight against marine plastic pollution and a model for sustainable business practices worldwide. She is dedicated to making a positive environmental impact while also fostering economic growth and community resilience. Via SeasSweepers, Taryn’s goal is to transform waste management practices through sustainable innovation to create cleaner, healthier oceans.
